Explorers (Age 14-18)

Explorer Scouts (Ages 14-18)

Being an Explorer is all about discovering the world on your own terms and making the most of what you have, wherever and whoever you are. Alongside your new friends, you’ll master the skills that will make you feel stronger and happier in the long run, and try things you’d never get the chance to do at home or at school.

Whether you’re hiking to faraway lands or building a robot in your local town hall, you’ll have the freedom to choose what you’d like to do, and work together with adults to make it happen.

We have one District Explorer Scout Unit - Heartwood Explorers - that meets at Sandridge.

The Unit offers exciting opportunities to develop skills, leadership, and independence. Activities range from adventurous pursuits like hiking and climbing to community service and international expeditions. Explorers also earn awards, including the Duke of Edinburgh and Queen’s Scout Awards, and can join the Young Leaders Scheme, supporting younger Scout sections.

What We Do

Every week, Sandridge Explorer Scouts come together for fun, learning, and adventure. Activities include:

  • Tackling outdoor challenges like hiking, camping, and expeditions,
  • Developing skills such as leadership, navigation, and teamwork,
  • Making an impact through volunteering and community projects, and
  • Achieving awards that recognize personal growth and exciting achievements.

What Uniform Do I Need?

When you are invested into the Group you will need to have the appropriate uniform and will be issued with your scarf and badges.  Your Section Leaders can provide further details on specific uniform requirements.

Uniforms are available at the Scout and Guide Shops which are located behind Alban Manor Nursing Home, off Waverley Road in St Albans.

In addition we do run a 'Pre-Loved' Uniform Shop where you can purchase second hand uniforms too.
